She is not the reigning second best outside spiker of the All-Filipino Conference for nothing.
Ara Galang has been a fixture of hot and cold performance throughout the entire All-Filipino Conference 2018, producing inconsistent numbers early in the tournament.
In fact, in their straight-set beating at the hands of Petron in Game 1, the talented open hitter was only limited to nine points — six from attacks and three aces — a far-cry to her usual double-double or triple-double outputs.
Back in her collegiate years, even before her sorry ACL injury, Galang has been known for her deadly kills, excellent floor defense, and superb court sense.
And this old form of her from the UAAP Season 76 was seen in Game 2 of the Finals as the Pampanga-born Galang produced 20 points built from 17 attacks, two blocks, and an ace to force a decider for the 2018 All-Filipino title.

In a postgame interview, Galang noted that amid the lackluster Game 1 performance she had, she went to Game 2 with a different mindset.

“Pumunta kami dito para maglaro talaga nang maayos at para manalo,” Galang said. “Ang sa amin lang ay ibibigay namin ‘yung best namin at ‘yung mga ginagawa namin sa training ay i-aapply namin during the game.”
For Game 3, Galang vows to go all-out: “Lahat na talaga ibibigay namin for Game 3. Dodoblehin pa namin ‘yung effort na ginawa namin dito sa Game 2.”
The winner-take-all Game 3 will be played tomorrow, December 20, at the Filoil Flying V-Arena in San Juan City.
