Foton taps former Turkish NT spiker, US hitter as imports for PSL Grand Prix

Two towering foreign wing spikers will wreak havoc for the Foton Tornadoes Blue Energy in the upcoming Philippine Superliga (PSL) Grand Prix.

Former Turkish national team player Selime Ilyasoglu and American hitter Courtney Felinski will be reinforcing the Tornadoes in their bid for the import-laden conference, which fires off next month.

Ilyasoglu and Felinski have already arrived Sunday night and will start training with the team soon.

With Foton in a two-year title drought, the two reinforcements are expected to play vital cogs as the two-time PSL Grand Prix champions look to add a third conference win under its belt.

The 30-year old Ilyasoglu suited up for the Turkish national team from 2011-2012, earning bronze medals in the 2011 European Championships and the 2012 FIVB Grand Prix.

The six-footer outside spiker-libero has played for Turkey’s powerhouse teams Eczacibasi and Galatasaray as well as in Thailand for Idea Khonkaen. She was also part of CSM Volei Alba Blaj who won silver in the prestigious 2017-2018 CEV Women’s Champions League.

The 27-year old Felinski is an outside hitter who played for Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, USA during her collegiate days before spending her professional career overseas.

Felinski, a six-foot-one spiker, has taken her talents in Spain, Germany, Switzerland and Finland, where she played for LiigaPloki and was hailed MVP of the tournament.

Ilyasoglu’ and Felinski’s addition to the team is a welcome boost for the offense and defense of Foton, who will still miss the services of the Santiago sisters.

They will be playing alongside Carmina Aganon, CJ Rosario, Gyselle Sy, Maika Ortiz, Gen Casugod, Jen Reyes and Ivy Perez under the tutelage of coach Aaron Velez.
