The Cignal HD Spikers made a big recruitment coup by acquiring Erica Wilson of USA as one of their imports in the upcoming Philippine Superliga (PSL) Grand Prix, which rolls its carpet next month.
Cignal head coach Edgar Barroga has confirmed the acquisition of Wilson, who will arrive this coming weekend to kickstart her training with her new team.
The 27-year old outside spiker Wilson becomes the eighth confirmed import for the Grand Prix following Petron’s Stephanie Niemer and Katherine Bell, F2’s Rebecca Perry, Lisbet Arrendando Reyes of Generika, Selime Ilyasoglu and Courtney Felinski of Foton, and Lindsay Stalzer for a yet-to-be-named club.
Wilson is no ordinary player.
After her successful NCAA career, the six-foot tall hitter suited up for the US national team 2013 FIVB Women’s Under-23 World Championship, selected by no less than the bemedaled Karch Kiraly. The team finished fourth.
The California native then spread her wings in Germany, Switzerland and Turkey.
With Wilson at the helm, Cignal looks to come up with a better finish after finishing sixth out of eight teams in last year’s iteration of the import-flavored conference.
She will be working alongside Rachel Ann Daquis, Mylene Paat, Jheck Dionela, Shirley Salamagos and local recruit Ranya Musa for the HD Spikers, who may still miss the services of the still-recovering Jovelyn Gonzaga and Janine Marciano.
Cignal is still under negotiations with their second import.
