#KamiUlit: Lady Eagles soars over Tigresses, bags third UAAP title

Hail to the new Queens!

Ateneo de Manila University capped its campaign in style as it copped the highly-coveted UAAP Season 81 championship after a straight-set win against the University of Sto. Tomas.

Forging a rubber match for the crown last Wednesday, the Lady Eagles banked on their formidable net defense and soared over the Golden Tigresses in three sets, 25-17, 25-22, 25-22, to bag their third UAAP title in the last six years, Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

This marked the team’s first title under the tutelage of coach Oliver Almadro.

Ateneo capped the season with 15 wins and four losses while UST went home with a win-loss 13-6 tally.

Graduating middle blockers Maddie Madayag and Be de Leon closed their collegiate career with a smash as they led the stellar net defense of the Katipunan-based squad.

Ateneo’s blocking was on point right from the get-go, putting pressure on UST’s wing hitters to take the opener in dominant fashion.

The girls in yellow-and-white seemed to have regrouped in the second as they were in lead before the blue-and-white spikers made a late set surge to go 2-0 in sets.

With their backs against the wall, Sisi Rondina tried to keep the Tigresses afloat, knotting the game at 22 before Madayag came through followed by a title-clinching hit from Jules Samonte.
