Golden Tigresses to look for new talents in Cebu

After snapping out of an eight-year Finals drought last season, University of Sto. Tomas continues its bid for glory, slating a two-day open tryout at the Sacred Heart School in Cebu on December 17 and 18.

UST assistant coach Yani Fernandez made the announcement via a Twitter post on Tuesday night.

The first part of the tryout was held last night, while the second part will be held later from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Sacred Heart in Mandaue, Cebu.

Per the tweet, the Golden Tigresses are looking for spikers who are at least 5-foot-8 tall while aspiring setter and libero for high school division will be accommodated as well.

Following its last championship stint in Season 73, the España-based spikers reached the Finals of Season 81 behind the efforts of Season Most Valuable Player Sisi Rondina and Rookie of the Year Eya Laure.

The veteran-rookie duo of Rondina and Laure played major role as the Kung Fu Reyes-mentored squad finished the eliminations as second-seed before dethroning De La Salle in the semis to barge into the Finals.

With Rondina maxing out her playing years, Laure is tipped to carry the scoring bulk. But she will not be without help as sister Eya Laure is billed to return after a two-season absence while prized rookie Imee Hernandez enters the seniors division.

The UAAP Season 82 volleyball tournaments open on February next year.
