Gamban on swag, staying true to himself: ‘Bakla ako, bakla ako maglalaro’

Prior to the suspension of UAAP Season 82 volleyball tournaments, the University of the Philippines rookie Louis Gamban has made quite a stir as he brought flair and swag to the Fighting Maroons.

With undeniably impressive power and leaping ability, it was Gamban’s celebration after each point that stole the show during his first two stints.

For Gamban, his performances were not meant to impress. If anything, he was just staying true to himself.

“Matuloy man o hindi ‘yung UAAP, isa sa pinaka natutunan ko eh ‘yung ilabas kung ano ‘yung tunay na ako. Bakla ako, bakla ako maglalaro. Hindi ko kailangan mag tigas-tigasan,” the rookie wrote in a tweet on Wednesday night.

The recruit from the University of Perpetual Help made an unforgettable introduction in their sweep of Ateneo de Manila University as he wound up 10 points laced with sass and swag.

In their four-seat defeat against University of the East, Gamban scored triple-double hits with 11 points, 14 digs, and 10 receptions — still laced with his infectious energy on court.

“As long as na wala akong natatapakan na tao at nasasaktan. mag peperoform ako ng todo,” he said.

Gamban and the rest of UP are awaiting the resumption of the games following the enhanced community quarantine placed in Luzon as measures to the COVID-19 threat in the country.
