Toni Rose Basas starting to make own name for FEU

Djokovic breezes past Tomic in Miami

FEU was looking to cruise past UE, but the Lady Warriors snatch the 3rd set in the UAAP Season 78 women’s volleyball tournament Sunday at the FilOil Flying V Arena.

Sophomore outside hitter Toni Rose Basas admitted it was the Lady Tamaraws’ fault that the Recto spikers suddenly sprang to life.

“Nawalan kami ng service receive,” she told FOX Sports. “Tapos biglang nag-lie low kami. Akala namin hindi na makakalaban ng ganun yung UE.”

Knowing how to respond, Basas said her team just tried to have fun in the 4th to prevent pressure from seeping into their heads.

“Nag-enjoy lang kami nung 4th set,” she said. “Masaya ako kasi dati mabagal ako, tapos ngayon medyo bumibilis na ako. Ako talaga focus ni coach (Shaq delos Santos).”

That focus on building her up paid off as Basas led FEU to their 1st win of the season. And that’s something they did without go-to girl Bernadeth Pons.

“Medyo na-pressure, kasi si Pons nga yung inaasahan, so kailangan ako mag-step up,” she said, adding she continues to hone her game because of her family.

“Yung family ko yung nagi-inspire sakin para galingan ko yung laro ko. Kasi nandyan sila para sakin lagi at lagi sila nanonood,” she said. — By Arylle Magtalas
