La Salle secures top spot, drops Adamson out of Final Four

The De La Salle University Lady Spikers defeated the Adamson University Lady Falcons in four sets, 25-21, 25-15, 22-25, 25-18 to avenge their first round loss.

The Taft spikers more importantly locked in the first seed in the team standings of the UAAP 80 Women’s Volleyball held at the Fil-Oil Flying V Centre in San Juan City, Wednesday afternoon.

Kim Kianna Dy led the Lady Spikers with her 17 points 13 attacks, 1 block and 3 service aces to officially acquire the first twice-to-beat advantage berth going into the Final Four.

Here are some of the volleyball fans who expressed their reactions and thoughts through Twitter.

In Set 1, La Salle went to a strong start thanks to early aces from Dy and Aduke Ogunsanya. Adamson’s late mini-run was undone by their attack and service errors that ultimately lost them the set.

The bench mob came alive once again for La Salle in Set 2 as May Luna delivered for the Lady Spikers through her service aces. Majoy Baron joined the party through her aces and solid net defense as Adamson committed crucial errors, especially in the reception.

Then in Set 3, Chiara Permentilla was inserted for the first time since her left ankle injury and immediately made an impact for Adamson with her service aces. Former Lady Spiker Eli Soyud and Joy Dacoron helped the recovering Permentilla to take set for the San Marcelino squad.

Finally, Luna and KKD paced De La Salle in the fourth set to neutralize Soyud’s late surge. Cheng closed the game with another ace to secure their twice-to-beat advantage.
