UAAP81 Beach Volleyball: UST duo Rondina and Barbon make quick work of UP

Not even a new beach volleyball partner won’t stop Sisi Rondina in her quest for a three-peat finish in the UAAP beach volleyball.

University of Santo Tomas’ Rondina with her new beach volleyball partner Babylove Barbon made quick work of University of the Philippines’ duo Isa Molde and Justine Dorog, 21-12, 21-12, to open its three-consecutive championship bid in the UAAP Season 81 beach volleyball tournament yesterday at the Sands SM by the Bay in Pasay City.

Rondina is playing her final year of UAAP eligibility while her pair Barbon is a newcomer. This, though, did not show in their debut game as they showed grace as if they were playing together for the long time already.

The Cebuana Rondina is the most decorated collegiate beach volleyball athlete, amassing three of the five UST titles, all won with different partner each season.

Last year’s bridesmaid finisher Far Eastern University, meanwhile, succumbed to the De La Salle Spikers in three grueling sets.

The pair of La Salle’s Mich Morente and Tin Tiamzon proved to be too much for FEU’s Ivana Agudo and Marianne Calinawan, 21-14, 20-22, 15-10.

To cap off the women’s tournament, National University’s Antonnete Landicho and Klymince Orilleneda also made quick work of Ateneo’s Jules Samonte and Panggay Gaston, 21-11, 21-14.

On the other hand, in the men’s division, the FEU Tamaraws led by Jude Garcia and Kevin Hadlocon opened their Season 81 bid on a high note after stunning defending champions National University bannered by Bryan Bagunas and James Natividad, 25-23, 21-17.

UST’s Kryng Arbasto and Jaron Requinton also had an exemplary debut after toppling Ateneo’s Kurt Aguilar and Abai Llenos, 21-14, while Adamson’s Pao Pablico and Jesus Valdez defeated UP’s Mac Millete and Nico Consuel, 24-22, 21-14.

Finally, University of the East’s Clifford Inoferio and Alven Aljas debuted with a win against La Salle’s Geraint Bacon and Raprap Sumalinog, 21-19, 21-16.
