Jer Malabanan headlines FEU in post-Pons era

Far Eastern University senior Jerrili Malabanan is up for a daunting task as she leads the Lady Tamaraws in Season 81 of the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament.

Last year’s bridesmaid finisher, the Lady Tamaraws will march to the UAAP war zone sans their main gunner Bernadeth Pons, who maxed out her playing eligibility last year.

Replacing Pons as captain of the team, Malabanan will headline this year’s lineup, with many holdovers from last year’s team, including Season 80’s best blocker Celine Domingo, Buding Duremdes, Kyle Negrito, Heather Guino-o, Cza Carandang, and Jeanette Villareal.

The Morayta-based squad will parade prized rookie Lycha Ebon, who saw quality minutes and delivered for the team in their Philippine Superliga Collegiate Grand Slam stint during their off-season.

Completing the lineup are: Carly Hernandez, Angel Cayuna, Ivana Agudo, Lyka Bautista, Elise Ronquillo, and Martha Mora.

The most bemedalled UAAP women’s team will test the mettle as they face National University in the main event of the opening day at the San Juan Arena, 4 p.m.
