While they already entered the final four after achieving their 10th straight victory of the season, the Ateneo Lady Eagles have no plans to be complacent.
This was assured by no less than Ateneo’s senior player Maddie Madayag, who scored 12 points in their four-set win over National University earlier today.

For the middle blocker, complacency is not part of Ateneo’s character. She said the team will remain focused despite booking a ticket to the Final Four for the 10th straight season.

“Well first and foremost, we shouldn’t be complacent kasi it’s not really part of our character,” Madayag shared.
“We don’t really want to show that just because we’re part of the final four, mag-eeasy easy na lang kami,” she added.
Down to their last three games before the semifinal rounds, Madayag noted that Ateneo’s goal is to finish the elimination round strong.
“Siyempre ‘yung patapos na games, we want to finish it strong pa rin. Para hopefully marami pa kaming ma-improve on sa skills, ‘yung mga iwas erros na kailangan naming gawin,” Madayag quipped.
In their win against NU, five Lady Eagles achieved double-digits output – a rare feat in the UAAP history.
Opposite hitter Kat Tolentino and open spiker Jules Samonte topscored the team with 13 points apiece while Ponggay Gaston and Bea de Leon each chipped in 10.
Ateneo’s blocking also worked in favor of them as they scored 11 points in this department.
This, Madayag said, is what they are focusing on.
“Well our team focuses on blocking din talaga. For Coach O, he tells us that block is our attack also. So, we take advantage of it,” she said.
