In every tournament, it is inevitable that one team needs to face its rival. And Ateneo Coach Oliver Almadro sure knows this fact.
Ateneo faced La Salle in their debut for this season and the outcome was rather disadvantageous for Almadro’s squad as they succumbed to the defending champions in four sets.
This, however, is already a thing in the past for Ateneo.
“Well, darating talaga ‘yung game na kakalaban talaga namin sila. What I’m telling my players is just be better than their best,” the coach said.
But while there is strong anticipation over this rematch, Almadro glozed over the rumors that Ateneo is having special preparation against La Salle.

For the coach, the team works hard in every game they play and put the same amount of respect to each team they play against.
“So, dadaan talaga siya. So kung sasabihin na may special preparation, no we don’t do that. We always prepare for every team. Lahat ng team kailangang nirerespeto. We respect all the teams,” he said.
If there is one thing special about La Salle, Almadro shared, it would be that this team is high-caliber.
“Siguro alam naman natin na La Salle is the defending champions so we will just do things that matter and we will really keep pushing ourselves up kasi great teams will just keep us forward. La Salle is a great team and I hope they will just push us forward,” the coach said.
After asserting their mastery over National University in four sets today, Ateneo has already booked a trip to the Final Four.
The Ateneo mentor, however, has no plans of slacking off.
“Well, our mentality is to be better than our best. We don’t care about the standings. Our mindset is the right motivation all the time,” he said.
“We don’t care about the stats, sinong number one, sinong number eight, we don’t care. Of course, we study it. But what’s important to us is the right motivation,” he added.
Ateneo remains on top of the standings with 10-1 win-loss card.
