Although their five-setter victory over the University of the Philippines (UP) officially eliminates the Lady Maroons in the final four hunt, National University (NU) head coach Norman Miguel said this is not their goal.
For the first year mentor, all they want is to have a good performance in their last two games – including this win.
“Actually hindi naman. Ang sa amin lang talaga ay purely i-end namin ‘yung last two games namin na may magandang performance, ‘yung panalo talaga. Hindi para i-oust ‘yung UP [sa Final Four]. Never crossed our minds. Basta maglaro lang kami at i-try ipanalo ‘yung game na ‘to,” he said.

But while this may be the case, the NU coach still lauded the gallant stand shown by UP.

“Hindi madali ‘yung game. Hindi talaga. Although nakuha namin ‘yung first two sets akala namin magiging madali siya kasi nakuha namin ‘yung first two sets. Pero hindi siyempre lalaban pa rin ‘yung UP,” Miguel said.
More than being happy, the win also boosts the morale of their team, and for Miguel this is the most important thing in closing the season.
“With this result, masaya ako na may lumabas ulit na character doon sa team namin. Ang usapan na lang namin i-protect na lang namin ‘yung character ng team,” he said.
“Sabi nga namin basta itong last two games na ito, manalo eh di manalo. Kung hindi, basta may best performance tayo. Eh this time nanalo kami, sobrang happy,” Miguel added.
Norman looks to have a better end in his first year of coaching the squad as they face the University of Santo Tomas on April 27 for their last game.
