UP clips Adamson, returns to upper column with 4-3 card

Back on their feet.

After a pair of shocking losses, University of the Philippines regained their footing heading into the next round of the UAAP Season 81 after dismantling Adamson University in four sets.

The Lady Maroons arrested a two-game skid and found their lethal form to clip the Lady Falcons, 25-27, 25-14, 25-12, 25-21, earlier at the FilOil Flying V Center in San Juan.

UP returned to the upper-half of the eight-team field as it grabbed a shared hold at no. 4 with Far Eastern University, both touting with an identical win-loss 4-3 card.

It was a feel-good win for the Godfrey Okumu-mentored squad, who suffered a straight set beating from Ateneo and a five-set defeat from National, going into the second phase of eliminations as it looks to end a two-year Final Four drought.

Adamson, meanwhile, continues its struggle as it absorbed its sixth loss in seven outings to dwell in the cellar with UE.

Veteran spikers Tots Carlos and Isa Molde dropped 14 hits apiece to lead UP while Marist Layug and Justin Dorog added 11 and nine.

Joy Dacoron led all scorers with 15 points on a losing effort as Adamson fell to a three-game slump.

With a close outputs in blocks (6-7) and aces (7-6), UP drew firepower from its attacks (53-41). The Lady Maroons also limited their errors to 19 while the Lady Falcons have had another lousy outing 34 errors.

UP dominated early in the opening frame, but their errors at the latter part of the set allowed Adamson to build momentum off a 6-1 run.

The Lady Maroons managed to save two set points before a drop from MJ Igao sealed the win for the Lady Falcons.

The Diliman-based spikers stormed in the next three with vengeance, creating double-digit separation and resisting Adamson’s fourth set fightback to bag the victory.
