Just when you thought wrestling could not get any more absurd, it hits you with another crazy match.
There are times when professional wrestling becomes way too serious and dramatic. We sometimes seem to forget that wrestling is still performance art. This means that aside from drama, there is also comedy. In this article, we’ll be discussing wrestling matches that made me laugh. We hope you laugh along to these as well.
Kenny Omega vs Little Girl (Stardom)
I don’t ever recall the context of this match but it is unbelievably entertaining. The little girl was able to handle herself in the ring pretty well. She was good enough to match Kenny to a time limit draw.
Any match for the DDT Ironman HeavyMetalWeight Championship (DDT PRO)
Oh Japan, why do we love your weirdness? DDT Pro is a mostly-comedic wrestling federation that has a very unique title. In the DDT Ironman Heavymetalweight Championshipt, the belt can be defended any time, anywhere. Literally. The belt has even changed hands in the wrestler’s dream. Heck, the matches this championship has are so crazy that the championship itself has become the champion. We haven’t even talked about how the Invisible Man wins the belt almost every time. You can see a ton of title changes in the playlist below.
Rampage Promotional Event
Don’t you just love seeing mascots try to beat each other up? That’s what we got for a promotional event in Japan. Dwayne Johnson’s movie, Rampage, was being set for release and a company decided to have a mascot rumble to promote it. Characters varied from a creature that would become tall at random moments, the popular cat on the internet that would hit objects and… Andre Za Giant Panda. What made this event even crazier is that they have legendary wrestler Masahiro Chono on commentary. He was treating it as if it was legitimate pro wrestling. The mix of seriousness and colorful characters made this even more hilarious. There isn’t really much to say when you’re watching mascots beat the heck out of each other. Enjoy.
ChAoS vs Guerillas of Destiny vs Great Bash Heel (NJPW-Warning: NSFW)
New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Wrestle Kingdom show always has something special, and this match for the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Belts was no exception. Not much has to be said as to why this is funny. There is a ton of cussing. A lot of it comes from GBH (Togi Makabe and Tomoaki Honma) & Guerillas of Destiny (Tama Tonga & Tanga Loa.) The number of profanities reached an absurd amount that the commentators lost track and started laughing all the way. You must watch this.
The entire Mixed Match Challenge
Wrestling doesn’t get any better when the wrestlers can be themselves, with no script holding them back. One of the best examples of this is the Mixed Match Challenge, a limited series that ran on Facebook Watch and where the WWE got to donate money to the team’s preferred charity. What made this series so good was the banter between wrestlers. Goldust and Jimmy Uso talked about their age gap, while Mandy Rose dissed Daniel Bryan’s hair. Every match had something to see.
