The Evolution in the Womens’ Revolution

Alexa Bliss reveals the Raw Women’s Survivor Series Team: Raw, Nov. 12, 2018

WWE just announced a fresh event on the WWE Network entitled WWE Evolution: a special event dedicated to Women’s wrestling.

On this night, all women’s championships and major titles will be defended. The ladies from Raw, Smackdown, NXT, and other guests will get the spotlight and showcase just how talented they are as wrestlers we must admire. Let’s take a look at some of the things we can look forward to and be excited for with the October event.

Rousey and Baszler. Is there No On Else?

Crossover superstars from other sports have always been a big attraction for the WWE. In recent events, the company has had huge deals made with MMA fighters making their brand of fighting more intense and competitive than ever before. First is MMA superstar Ronda Rousey, who’s currently making lots of noise and picking lots of fights that the Raw Women’s division is literally running away from her. Next is Shayna Baszler, another MMA vet who got introduced to the WWE Universe as one of the participants from the inaugural Mae Young Classic. Now, she’s none other than the current WWE NXT Champion. WWE Evolution may introduce us to more crossovers from MMA who can make a big presence in the Women’s division.

From the Globe to the WWE

If there’s anything the WWE’s tournaments like the Mae Young Classic and Cruiserweight Classic showed us, it’s that WWE is willing to invite and give shots to superstars from around the globe the WWE treatment. It is in these tournaments that we got to see Kota Ibushi, Akira Tozawa (Japan) and Gran Metalik (Mexico) for the first time in WWE. The Mae Young Classic introduced us to Kairi Sane (Japan), Jazzy Gabert (Germany), and Princessa Sugehit (Mexico). If we’re having another edition of the Mae Young Classic, with the epic final to be held during WWE Evolution, we better prepare ourselves for another historic moment which may feature  an international finalist at a key WWE special event.

Unite the Four Horsewomen

July 2015 was the time the Four Horsewomen of NXT made the jump to the main roster of WWE. In the years since then, these women have made a name for themselves on the big stage. They’ve held various titles, main evented shows, and even featured on Wrestlemania matches. They’ve gone their separate ways since as Banks and Bayley are on Raw, while Charlotte and Lynch are on Smackdown. Their talents and contributions are always remembered and have always been influential in establishing how the women’s division now is.

At WWE Evolution, we may get the opportunity to see these four together again on the same ring to celebrate their contributions to the WWE Women’s Revolution. This may be a tribute with honors. Top it off with a special match between them (reminiscent of their epic 4-ways in NXT) to remind us of why we are in this era of Women’s wrestling in WWE.
